My Great Grandparents, Enfield, North London Circa 1900
above .....William Alder (in the centre of photo) and Annie Simmons on 'their land' down Parsonage Lane, Enfield (they lived at number 74). William was a 'general dealer' on the census, I think he was a bit of an entrepreneur ... he sold milk, ran a 'pub' (The Cricketers in Enfield) and had pigs (poor things). In fact my father's cousin Stuart tells me that he was called 'Piggy Alder'. The family story goes that he lost his money through a court battle over a friend's Will, but I have yet to find any paper trail to support this.

I'm afraid I might be disappointed if I went to England and London now as I would expect it to still look like these great old photos.
